First Monograph
Booth-Clibborn Editions, 2010
The first survey to explore the extraordinary life and work of one of the Middle East’s most fascinating contemporary artists.
Looking at the work of one of Saudi's leading contemporary voices, whose work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and in the collections of the British Museum and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Exploring a career informed by education and life as a medical doctor, as well as by traditional religious upbringing and Saudi culture. Encompassing photography, calligraphy, painting, installation and video, to explore the narratives and aesthetics of Islamic culture in an era of globalisation, consumerism and dramatic flux.
The book examines four artistic projects, and includes contributions from leading scholars and commentators writing from London, Riyadh, Los Angeles, Paris, Abha, Sana’a and Amsterdam.
